Frequently Asked Questions Please read this entire page before continuing with the registration process. What are the age requirements to play in KALL? Baseball: 5-12 Softball: 5-18 Age is calculated as follows: Use this Little League age calculator to determine your child's age and the programs for which he/she is eligible. You can also consult these age charts for 2008 season: Baseball Softball What are the residency requirements? Players must live within the boundaries established for KALL by Little League Inc. Roughly the boundaries are:
For greater details please consult our boundary map. Requests for waivers to the residency requirement must be made to the KALL president at registration time. All waivers must be approved by Little League Inc. Players who previously played for KALL and have since moved out of the league’s boundaries are eligible to play in KALL but must submit the waiver form. Waiver requests must be resubmitted every season. Waiver form What programs are available at different age levels? How much do they cost?
For certain ages there is more than one program available. What's the difference, and how do I know which would be best for my child? It is true that there is overlap at certain age levels (11-year-olds in baseball must choose between the Major and Coast programs, for example). This is to accommodate players of different playing experience, skill levels and/or comfort levels. If your child is a returning KALL player you may want to consult his or her coach from last season for guidance. Otherwise you should contact the vice president for either of the levels you are considering, who can help you with the decision (see our Board of Directors roster for contact information). If you choose one program and later decide you'd like to change it can be done up to the time of our tryouts in February. Again, contact the appropriate vice president. I would like my child to play in the division above (or below) the one designated for his Little League age. How do I go about making this happen? All requests to play out of division MUST be approved by the KALL Board of Directors. To submit a request:
The online registration process will allow you to choose only the division designated for your child's age. You should go ahead and register your child for that division; if your request is approved KALL officials will take care of reassigning him/her. I’m planning to register more than one child. Is there a multi-player discount? Yes! The maximum total fee for any family is $140. We want to make KALL available to any child who wants to play. NOTE: The family discount is only available when you pay by check or cash. The option to pay by check is available during online registration. Or you can come to our walk-in registration sessions and pay by check or cash. If you choose to pay by credit card during online registration you will be charged the full amount for each child, and refunds cannot be offered. Are scholarships available? Yes, in limited numbers. Please download our scholarship form and submit it with your application. If you are registering online please note your request in the "Special requests" field. Please mail the form to: What does the league provide, and what do we need to have/buy? The league provides each team with bats, balls, batting helmets, catcher’s gear, championship trophies, etc. The league provides uniform jerseys for all players. Depending on the level of play, families are responsible for other parts of the uniform (hat, pants, socks, etc.). Your child will need a baseball/softball glove. Once they move beyond the T-Ball level players should wear cleats. That’s still a lot less expensive than many other sports leagues. What’s the catch? KALL relies totally on volunteerism. Every family is required to help out, whether it’s coaching, umpiring, serving on the Board of Directors, working the concession stand, etc. This spirit of community has helped the league thrive for more than 50 years. Remember, this is your league. Get involved! Will my child be able to play on the same team as his friends from school? For our T-Ball, AA baseball and Minor softball programs teams are formed, as much as possible, based on the school the child attends. (Children who attend private schools are generally placed on the team representing the closest public elementary school.) Please be aware that it is simply not always possible to accommodate all requests. For example, if there are 16 children from one school they cannot all play on the same team; roster size is typically limited to 12-14 players. You will have the opportunity to make special requests when you register. Those who register early have the best chance of having their requests met. For all other age levels teams are formed through a draft system. This assures competitive balance among teams, assuring a more enjoyable experience for all. Why does my child have to go through tryouts? A better name for the tryout process is player evaluation. This helps us assure that teams are evenly balanced. It also helps assure that a player is placed in the division that is most appropriate for his/her abilities. Every effort is made to keep the tryout process low-key and fun. All players will be placed on a team. The tryout schedule is here. When does the season start and end? Here’s a rough schedule: How much of a time commitment is there for my child? For younger players the norm is 2-3 events (practices and/or games) per week. For older players 3-4 events is more common. League rules prohibit more than 4 team events per week.
